Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
Gain expertise in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages by studying at the world-ranked Faculty of Education and Social Work.
You will gain a useful foundation in subjects that inform TESOL education, such as psychology, philosophy, sociology and history. You will develop up-to-the-minute knowledge and skills in learning, teaching and assessment. Practical experience is integral to the programme.
This programme will be useful for education leaders and policymakers as well as TESOL teachers.

Bachelor of Education (Teaching)
The Bachelor of Education (Teaching) programme has 3 specialisations:

- Huarahi Māori
You will be taught by academics who are experts in their fields of Education and passionate about supporting the next generation of teachers. Courses are taught through a range of methods including face-to-face lectures, tutorials and workshops, as well as online learning.
Over the 3 years, you’ll spend full-time practical placements (practicums) in a range of schools, or early childhood centres. You’ll have the guidance of a dedicated teacher within the school or centre, as well as support by your university supervisors. This will help you to become a part of a community, establish connections to set you up in your career, and gain vital skills to prepare you for the transition into teaching.

This qualification is relevant to those working in a wide range of education areas. It provides the opportunity to review, inform and improve your knowledge and professional practice. You will develop knowledge, skills and experience in critiquing and undertaking educational research in your area of interest to enhance your practice. Through an independent inquiry under supervision from high-calibre experts within the faculty, you can contribute valuable knowledge and understanding to the field of education. Master of Education Practice
If you are a practising teacher who would like to advance your knowledge, skills and qualification and apply them directly to your own work context, this programme offers flexible pathways through which you can achieve your goals.
You can choose courses that include a practice project or courses that do not. You will be equipped with world-leading research, knowledge and tools to help enhance your own teaching practice. In this way, you can better achieve positive and equitable outcomes for diverse communities and learners.
This practitioner-focused programme is designed to be taken part-time, outside of school hours, using a blend of face-to-face and online delivery.
