Bachelor of Advanced Science
It’s for students who want to pursue postgraduate research. From Chemistry to Computational Biology, and Ecology to Environmental Change, the 11 specialisations available in the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) span the spectrum of the sciences.
You’ll develop advanced disciplinary knowledge and relevant research skills, and you’ll undertake original research in your chosen area. Depending on how well you do in your courses, you may be able to progress straight to a PhD.
You may be able to transfer between the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours), with faculty approval.
You can also study for a Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) as a conjoint programme, which means you can take two undergraduate programmes at the same time.

Master Courses
Master of Science
The Master of Science (MSc) programme enables you to pursue advanced study in your area of interest with the opportunity to work on independent research.
Studying for an MSc is an opportunity for committed scientists to focus on a relevant area of interest or practice and pursue an advanced qualification. While a taught masters will provide you with specialist training in your chosen field, a research masters will develop advanced research skills, working alongside Faculty of Science researchers – many of whom are major contributors in their field.

Master of Bioscience Enterprise
Taught by the School of Biological Sciences, the Business School and the Faculty of Law, the MBioEnt teaches scientists to understand and protect the value of their research.
You’ll learn how to translate breakthrough discoveries into high value products, strategies for commercialisation, key aspects of intellectual property law, valuation tools, and how to write a business plan.
You’ll also complete a six-month industry internship, which offers a unique opportunity to put your skills into practice.

Master of Data Science
The ability to turn data into information, knowledge and innovative products is a skill in high demand within industry. By completing a strong core of Computer Science and Statistics courses, you will gain a unique combination of skills in Data Science and be able to comprehend, process and manage data effectively to extract value from it. Graduates will be critical, reflective practitioners able to pursue professional goals and further postgraduate study.
We also offer the Master of Data Science (MDataSci) as a 240-point taught masters as a March intake only. This is suitable for students who have a background in either Computer Science or Statistics, but not both. Students who have majored in Data Science, or a combination of computer science and Statistics, should apply for the 180-point taught masters.

Master of Engineering Geology

Designed to meet the demand for industry-ready ICT professionals who possess the right mix of technological skills, critical thinking and business awareness.
The ICT industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. As a result there’s a huge demand for industry-ready ICT graduates who have the right mix of technological skills and business awareness.
The depth of business enterprise and project-based learning sets the MInfoTech apart from other qualifications. During the programme, you’ll complete a 10-week internship where you’ll work on a real-world project.
The ICT Graduate School is a collaboration between the University of Auckland and the University of Waikato and offers postgraduate study in Information Technology that aims to develop smart, industry-ready ICT graduates who will meet this need. The MInfoTech will be awarded jointly by the University of Auckland and the University of Waikato.

Master of Marine Conservation
The Master of Marine Conservation focuses on finding solutions to complex issues that characterise the management and conservation of the marine environment.
The number and size of marine protected areas (MPAs) are increasing in response to intensifying pressures on our oceans and the need to provide more robust guardianship of marine ecosystems. Protected by law, MPAs require skilled scientists and environmental managers from diverse backgrounds to advocate for, design, monitor and protect them.
The MMarineCons is developed and taught in partnership with Conservation International (CI) and provides essential skills for people looking for careers in MPA research and management, and marine conservation more generally.
If you are already working in this exciting field, or you want make an impact in the marine conservation world, the MMarineCons will give you the opportunity to upskill, improve knowledge, and gain research experience. The programme also provides learning and hands-on experience in policy and strategic management and will benefit graduates from other disciplines wanting to work in this field. This programme is primarily taught at the city campus with some classes and courses taught at the Leigh Marine Laboratory.
