AUT is 1 of the only 2 tertiary institutions in NZ that offer physiotherapy. Physiotherapy students at both schools must complete 1,000 hours of supervised clinical experience before
graduating.
Physiotherapists help people improve their quality of life. As a physiotherapist you work with a wide range of people, helping them overcome physical problems due to ageing, injury, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors. Most New Zealand physiotherapists work privately, treating acute sport and accidental injuries, chronic pain, back and neck problems. You also find physiotherapists in most hospitals and general practices.
The Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy) has a strong focus on clinical practice, and you complete about 1,000 hours of clinical experience as part of your studies.

Fees: NZ$$35,820* /year
The Master of Medical Laboratory Science (MMLSc) degree, and preceding Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science (PGDipMLSc), allow a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc) graduate to pursue a full-time research option, possibly leading on to a PhD.
The MMLSc can also allow experienced Medical Laboratory Scientists with unrelated or no previous university study to undertake research-based qualifications which may assist them into research and academic careers. Potential candidates should note that there is a strong focus on assisting the individual to develop self-directed research skills

AUT is the only university in New Zealand where you can study a podiatry degree.
Podiatry focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of common conditions affecting the lower limb and foot. After successfully completing AUT’s podiatry degree, you can apply to register as a podiatrist in New Zealand and overseas.
Clinical placements in hospitals, primary health organisations, private practices and AUT’s on-campus podiatry clinic are a key part of this programme. These placements are your chance to experience all aspects of a podiatrist’s caseload, and a great networking opportunity. You can practise and perform minor surgical procedures in AUT’s purpose-built surgical theater.

Occupational therapists promote the health and wellbeing of individuals, groups and communities. They help people participate in everyday activities including learning,
communication, interpersonal interaction and relationships, mobility, self-care, domestic life, and social life. Occupational therapists can also modify people’s environment – or the activity itself – to help them participate in the activity. The occupational therapy degree is intensive and involves learning in an interprofessional environment, in the classroom and in clinical practice settings.
