Dentistry
Bachelor of Dental Surgery
Fees: NZ$100,085* /yearly average
Dentistry is not just about teeth, but all the oral and maxillofacial tissues—and it is increasingly being recognised that good oral health is important for good general health.
Dentists prevent oral diseases, and diagnose and treat pre-existing conditions. Dentists have many roles: they may have a family dental practice, they may specialise in high-tech implants and restorative procedures, and they may work with medically or socially-disadvantaged patients.
As a graduate there are opportunities for full-time or part-time work in New Zealand or overseas; and opportunities include private general or specialist practice, academic careers, or hospital-based practice.
Doctor of Clinical Dentistry
Fees: NZ$68,141* /year
The Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) degree provides graduate training in ten disciplines in dentistry. The aim of each discipline programme is to prepare graduate students to become registered specialists in that discipline.
The programmes include clinical research and clinical practice and prepare students to be both practitioners and advisory consultants in their chosen areas of specialisation. Within each programme, course work includes papers on research methods and practice, advanced clinical science, and advanced clinical practice.

Early detection of dental disease and preventive treatment is a key aspect of the work of a dental therapist.
An oral health professional can be registered to practise as a dental hygienist or as a dental therapist or both. Both disciplines are skilled at promoting healthy lifestyles and have a strong awareness of the socio-cultural influences on health.
Master of Oral Health
Fees: NZ$97,344* /year
The Master of Oral Health (MOH) provides an opportunity for Bachelor of Oral Health graduates, or graduates of another approved oral qualification, and registered in the scopes of dental therapy and/or dental hygiene, to develop advanced theoretical, clinical and research skills.
This qualification will provide a stepping stone to a PhD and a pathway to an academic career in oral health or to an advanced clinical career.

Dental Technology is the technical side of dentistry where dental technicians make appliances to improve patients’ appearance, speech, or ability to chew.
