In each academic year, around 160 students are admitted to the University of Dundee for its medicine course. Here, it exposes you to the real world, having to interact with actual patients in the early of the course itself. Dundee’s Forensic Medicine BMSc develops your knowledge in the area of medicine related to the legal system. Learn how medicine and science can be applied to the investigation of death and crime and the legal implications this has. In addition to that, you will be based at our city campus and at Dundee’s police mortuary where you will have the
opportunity to observe post-mortems and be taught by case-active forensic medicine specialists.

The wide range nature of this course allows you to work in forensic
pathology or medicine or in branches of medicine where victims of abuse are regularly encountered – for example, emergency medicine, general practice or pediatrics.

The major challenges confronting society are complex and interdisciplinary, and current solutions to today’s and tomorrow’s intractable problems are not working. This complexity requires a different type of professional; one who is equipped to work in a very different and collaborative way to find new solutions. Our Professional Doctorate Programme will help you to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes required to fulfil this role.

Dentists care for people’s oral health by preventing disease, promoting healthy lifestyles, and when necessary treating diseases of the soft tissues of the mouth as well as the teeth and gums.

As a future dentist, you need a caring attitude, good scientific knowledge and understanding, technical skills, and the ability to communicate well.

Our curriculum will encourage you to learn in an interactive and creative way in a supportive environment.

From the very beginning you learn the fundamentals of the sciences that underpin dentistry and how they apply to clinical situations. You’ll be able to put your new skills into practice in a clinical environment.

By the end of the first semester you will be ready to meet your first patients, communicate professionally with them, understand their health issues, and prepare for starting simple clinical dental procedures in semester two.

There are many innovative features of studying in Dundee, for example, you can work with Thiel cadavers. The Thiel method of embalming preserves cadavers with life-like flexibility and tissue quality.

You will be able to take part in research projects through summer internships and participate in the Dental Wiki project.

In the annual Discovery Week you can explore a topic of your own choice. You may choose to build on this through an elective study that can include travelling to see dentistry in a different culture.

The Dental School is situated in the heart of the Main University Campus, and therefore Dental postgraduate students are in close proximity with researchers and research opportunities in other parts of the University, as well as to library, recreational, culinary and sports facilities.

Dental postgraduate students in Dundee benefit from exposure to cutting edge research in a well established research environment throughout their period of study. There are also excellent clinical facilities for those students undertaking taught clinical programmes.
